Vegar
Birmingham's Underground Sound - 23 Years of Musical Storytelling
The Journey of Vegar
From watching his father build sound systems for Birmingham's carnival floats to performing at BBC Radio 1Xtra and creating the iconic Hungry4Music bus, Vegar embodies the spirit of Birmingham's underground music scene. His sets are journeys through UK Garage, House, Jungle, and Drum & Bass that move both dancefloors and souls.
Roots in Birmingham's Sound System Culture
Born and raised in Birmingham, Vegar is a name deeply rooted in the UK underground scene, carrying over two decades of passion, skill, and musical storytelling behind the decks. With a sound that moves fluidly between UK Garage, House, Jungle, and Drum & Bass, Vegar has built a reputation for creating sets that take listeners on a journey — from deep, underground rhythms to liquid, melodic soundscapes that stay with you long after the night ends.
Music has always been in Vegar's blood. Growing up, he watched his father build custom speakers and sound systems for Birmingham's carnival floats, soaking in the art of sound from an early age. That foundation became the blueprint for his own creative path — one that has taken him from humble beginnings on vinyl to national recognition as a versatile and dynamic DJ.
23 Years Behind the Decks
With 23 years behind the decks, Vegar's career highlights speak for themselves. He's been invited to guest mix and take over BBC Radio 1Xtra on three occasions (2022 & 2023), showcasing his deep connection to the UKG and house community. Not one to wait for opportunity, he created his own — founding S.h.a.g (Strictly House and Garage), a bold and unapologetic event series that transformed the nightlife scene in the small town of Lye.
Mixing the commercial with the underground, S.h.a.g quickly became a local staple, breathing new life into Glasshouse and other venues along the High Street. Vegar's ability to read a crowd and blend genres seamlessly has made him a sought-after name in the Midlands and beyond.
Hungry4Music: The Custom-Built Bus
Vegar's creative vision doesn't stop at the booth. During lockdown, he brought his ideas to life with Hungry4Music — a custom-built, dual-purpose bus combining street food and live music, complete with a hand-built sound system and DJ booth. The bus has since become a standout attraction at major car shows and festivals, including VW Tatton Park (performing to crowds of up to 7,000), Lab11's Invasion, and Crooked House Festival in Lichfield.
This innovative project showcases Vegar's entrepreneurial spirit and his commitment to bringing music to the people, no matter the venue. The Hungry4Music bus represents the perfect fusion of his passion for sound system culture and his love for creating unique experiences.
Producer & Musical Evolution
Beyond DJing, Vegar continues to evolve as a music producer, currently exploring the liquid sounds of garage while staying open to other styles that reflect his broad influences and love for emotive, atmospheric music. His production work demonstrates the same attention to detail and emotional depth that characterizes his DJ sets.
Whether behind the decks, behind the wheel of his iconic bus, or behind the studio monitors, Vegar is more than a DJ — he's a creator, a storyteller, and a true embodiment of Birmingham's underground sound. His sets don't just move dancefloors — they move people.
