Vanyra
Barcelona-based producer reimagining the UK sound
The Journey Behind Garage Tape Packs
If you ask Vanyra where it all began, he'll probably say 'at home, surrounded by instruments.' Born in Buenos Aires and raised between Córdoba, Argentina and Barcelona, music has always been part of his daily life. His parents, grandparents, and half of his eight siblings were musicians, so he grew up hearing folk melodies, basslines, and jam sessions echoing around the house.
Musical Roots
Growing up in a household filled with instruments and musicians, Vanyra's earliest memories are soundtracked by folk melodies, basslines, and impromptu jam sessions. With parents, grandparents, and four of his eight siblings all playing music, creativity wasn't just encouraged—it was inevitable.
This rich musical environment laid the foundation for his eclectic taste and deep understanding of rhythm, melody, and emotion. From an early age, he learned that music wasn't just sound—it was a language, a feeling, a way of connecting with others.
Electronic Awakening
When he first heard Daft Punk and Todd Edwards as a teenager, something clicked. 'It just sounded different,' he recalls. That mix of chopped vocals, warmth, and groove pulled him straight into the world of electronic music.
His first productions leaned towards French House, with a touch of Garage, before he fell headfirst into the deeper side of soulful and deep house—inspired by Kerri Chandler and the raw, gospel-tinged sound of the 90s. These early influences shaped his production style, teaching him the importance of soul, groove, and emotional depth in electronic music.
The Todd Edwards Effect
But it was Todd Edwards who really did it. Digging deeper into Todd's catalogue and community, Vanyra discovered the emotion and swing of UK Garage—a genre that instantly felt like home.
His first vinyl was a copy of 'Saved My Life' (i! Records) with remixes by Grant Nelson, another defining influence. 'That record changed everything,' he says. The chopped vocals, the shuffle, the warmth—it all came together in a way that resonated deeply with his musical soul. From that moment, UK Garage became more than just a genre; it became a passion.
Record Digging Days
Every Friday after school, he'd walk to Discos Paradiso in Barcelona to dig for second-hand UK imports. There was no Shazam, no Spotify—just instinct. He'd pick records based on their names or sleeves and discover sounds he'd never heard before.
Those surprises became part of his education. Learning to trust his intuition, to take risks on unknown tracks, and to appreciate the art of discovery shaped his approach to both DJing and production. The thrill of finding a hidden gem in the crates became an addiction that continues to this day.
Festival Education
Getting into clubs took a bit longer. 'Spain wasn't big on house when I was growing up,' he admits. Most venues were playing EDM or reggaeton, but festivals like Sónar and Primavera Sound opened his eyes to Barcelona's underground culture.
One of his most memorable moments came at Monegros Festival, when he caught Jeremy Underground playing a three-hour set of pure Garage. 'It was magic. I just got lost in the music.' That experience showed him the power of a proper DJ set—the journey, the selection, the connection with the crowd. It was a masterclass in what DJing could be.
Genre Exploration
After more than a decade of producing and experimenting with different genres—from Techno and Drum & Bass to Hip Hop and Trap—Vanyra found his identity in Garage House and UKG.
This period of exploration wasn't wasted time; it was essential education. Each genre taught him something new: Techno showed him the power of repetition and hypnotic grooves, Drum & Bass taught him about energy and dynamics, Hip Hop revealed the art of sampling and storytelling, and Trap demonstrated modern production techniques. All of these influences now inform his unique approach to Garage music.
Finding Identity
His releases have landed on respected labels like Pogo House, Smashing Trax, Plastik People, Deeplomatic Records, and Garage Paradise, all while building his presence in the European underground.
Each release represents a step forward in his artistic journey, refining his sound and establishing his voice in the global Garage community. Working with these labels has connected him with like-minded artists and exposed his music to audiences around the world, proving that the UK Garage sound transcends borders and cultures.
Studio & Sound
In his studio, surrounded by analogue synths and his bass guitar, Vanyra crafts music that feels warm, soulful, and alive. Although born in 1998, he's drawn to the spirit of the 90s: dusty samples, shuffling drums, human imperfection.
His production philosophy centers on creating music that breathes—tracks that feel organic rather than overly polished, with the warmth of analogue gear and the soul of live instrumentation. The bass guitar, in particular, adds a human touch to his productions, grounding the electronic elements with real, physical vibration.
The Present & Future
His DJ sets blend Garage House, UKG, Jungle, Drum & Bass, and classic House, taking dancers on a journey that's both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Based in Barcelona, Vanyra is part of the new wave of producers reimagining the UK sound through their own lens.
His approach is simple: make music that connects. Whether in the studio or behind the decks, his goal is to create moments of genuine emotion and connection—to remind people why they fell in love with dance music in the first place. As he puts it: 'Groove never dies, it just changes shape.'
With releases continuing to drop on respected labels and his presence growing in the European underground scene, Vanyra represents the future of UK Garage—a sound that honors its roots while constantly evolving and adapting to new contexts and cultures.
