Marvin Swift Finger G

THE JOURNEY.... Marvin “Swiftfingers G” Officially started his DJ career at the crack of the 1990s, right in the heart of the underground club scene. Growing up around Leeds/London, Marvin cut his teeth playing predominantly US House and Garage, becoming a regular presence at the infamous Music Factory in Leeds... It was here that he began developing the distinctive style and sound that would eventually become his trademark — deep, soulful, dubby and skippy underground music, always with an emphasis on the dancefloor. Around 1993, Marvin took things a step further and launched his own weekly event, JU JU Club, at Club Phono in Leeds. The night quickly established itself as a home for people looking for something different from the mainstream. Only a few months later, Marvin was offered a residency at Charlie Parkers Nightclub, where he created two other events of his own — THE BIG APPLE and NATIVE NEW YORKER. These nights concentrated heavily on the deeper, darker and more underground side of New York Garage Smack/Menatalinstrum vibe Marvin was digging deep for records that weren't necessarily being played everywhere else, bringing a distinctly New York-inspired sound to the Leeds dancefloor. His sets were embraced by a loyal following, many of whom also tuned in to hear him on his pirate radio shows on Peoples FM. But Marvin wasn't content simply playing the records. TAKING UK GARAGE UP NORTH By 1994, Marvin had become increasingly fascinated by the new sounds coming out of the UK. He was hearing tracks being produced by a new generation of British producers and recognised that something special was beginning to happen. Rather than simply waiting for the scene to develop, he decided to get involved. Marvin set up what he describes as one of the first distribution operations called NEEDLE2GROOVE, dedicated specifically to UK House & Garage titles, supplying record shops throughout the North and Midlands of the UK. More of this journey will be told soon....
